Why do People Think Harry Potter is Better Than Twilight?

Why do People Think Harry Potter is Better Than Twilight?

So I’ve read all over the internet that people think Harry Potter is better then Twilight but I have reason why Twilight is better. 1: Harry Potter has too many stereotypes. For example, Hermione’s the nerd, Neville’s the loser and Draco’s the bully. Twilight has no stereotypes. 2: Harry Potter barely any romantic love. It’s all about family and friendship. That is so lame! 3: Robert Pattinson is more dedicated to Twilight then he was Harry Potter. He’s gonna be in all the Twilight movies but he’s was only in one Harry Potter movie. As I recall Cedric Diggory was in 2 of the books. 4: Harry is a bad example for kids. He’s always getting himself into trouble, like when he sneaks out of Gryffindor tower. Twilight characters never get themselves into trouble. 5: You can relate to Twilight better. I mean how many people do you know that have fallen in love. Now how many people do you know, ho have to kill of an all powerful bad guy because he killed their parents. Theses are my top 5 reasons why Twilight is waaay better then Harry Potter. I’d like to see them proved wrong.

You suck. You honestly stated those “reasons” for Twilight being better than Harry Potter?! I mean are you serious?
Anyway, I didn’t want to troll. But godawful stupid people like you wearing their ignorance like a badge annoy the fuck out of me. You need an IQ above at least 100 to like and appreciate Harry Potter.
    Ugh!

This is ridiculous. Twilight was shit, full of cockblocking and Harry is a fucking pussy who never got laid until the end. This is ridiculous and just go get lives, and I’m slapping the friend who sent me this link. Go find friends or get a hobby, in the end none of these people give a fuck about what you think because they’re still getting paid big bucks for doing these shitty teenage stories. I’m done, fuck.

I’m not going to waste my time proving all five reasons wrong, so I’ll just argue the one that irritates me the most. Number two: “Harry Potter has barely any romantic love. It’s all about family and friendship. That is so lame!”
So, what, you think that your family and friends are lame? That loving them is lame? Romantic love isn’t everything, honey. Also, the quality of a book should not be judged by how much romance is in it. I could name plenty of good books with little to no romance in them! Holes. Because of Winn-Dixie. Inkheart (at least the first one). A Series of Unfortunate Events. The Chronicles of Narnia. The Help (yes, Skeeter DID go out with Stuart, but it was a pretty small subplot).
Next, saying that Harry Potter has no romance in it tells me that you OBVIOUSLY did not read books 4-7 or even seen movies 4-7. Ron and Hermione’s relationship is FULL of sexual tension from book four onward. I mean, did you even read Half-Blood Prince? Hello! Huge Ron-Hermione-Lavender love triangle there! And Harry’s got a thing for Ginny the whole time! That book had so much romance in it that Harry’s quest to destroy Voldemort almost became a subplot!

    1) I just hurt my stomach laughing my but of. okay sweetie listen you have it backwards Twilight is full of stereotypes Example being Edward is the Hot guy all the girls want, Bella is the damsel in distress, and Jacob is the one who makes the love triangle.
Hermione is not a nerd she is just smart, but besides that she is independent, kind, and brave she does not need a guy to protect her and she will stand up for herself.
Neville is not a loser he is insecure about himself he soon gain confidence and learns to stand up for himself and others
and Draco is a bully because of the lessons and morals his father has taught him he is just a boy who made wrong choices in his life and in the end he changes and somewhat a better person

    2) Okay you obviously must really hate your family and friends. Harry potter Varies in Love. Love a parent has for their child, Love between friends, etc
but there is a lot of Romance in HP but it is more realistic Examples Harry/Ginny Ron/Hermione Ron/Lavender Harry/Cho Remus/Tonks Snape/Lily and Lily/James.

    3) No Robert pattinson’s character in HP was only in one book. Robert has stated openly in a interview that he actually hates twilight.

    4) wow twilight characters never get into trouble huh…… last time I checked Bella got knocked up at 18, ran away in new moon to save Edward, jumped of a cliff, and begged Edward to have sex with her. Huh….. Harry is a bad role model well OF COURSE HE IS (sarcasm) he is just brave, kind, loyal, and very selfless the kind of person no one should be like T_T.

    5) No you cannot relate to twilight because the twilight characters are perfect there no such thing as being perfect people have flaws and yes people do fall in love they do not fall in love in the course of 3 days or 5 minutes it takes time. Harry’s story is more realistic because the characters have flaws, and when they fall in love it takes time. also I always saw harry’s story to be more realistic because through the course of the book it seems like harry is trying to figure out who he is and what his purpose in life is which is something we all go through.

There I just proved you wrong =p =] next time don’t be so shallow

    i hate u. so much.
    here’s my reasoning:
    1. oh yeah, cuz every single book in the world is about wizards that go off to fight an evil overlord. that’s definitely stereotypical.
    2. lame? LAME??!!!! harry potter and the gang kick bella’s skinny little ass and you know it!!! and ps, neville marries luna, ron marries hermione, and harry marries ginny. and in the sixth, there’s a ton of kissing and such if that’s what you like. but really, harry potter is so much better and didn’t even need any of that stupid crap you call “entertainment”.
    3. first of all, he was SO much better as cedric diggory. and he was only in one harry potter movie because the character was only in one movie. i bet he would have died to continue with the harry potter franchise instead of becoming some stupid sparkly jerk.
    4. TWILIGHT is a bad example for kids!!! running away, getting married to some sparkly vampire, having sex with him when you’re like 19…that’s pretty sick, if you ask me. bella’s one stupid bitch.
    5. harry potter represents hope in oddballs everywhere. bella represents a stupid teenager who chases after some stupid sparkly guy who ends up being a stupid vampire, and like a stupid jerk she has a stupid vampire baby with him!!! think of all the oddballs in your life that stuck up for themselves and each other. then think of all the people like bella–people that fell in love with creepy vampires. yeah, cuz that happens every single day.
i’ll admit, these books aren’t really SUPPOSED to be realistic, but if you want realistic and easy to relate to, i can sit here all day and watch you chase your tail.
seriously. what is this world coming to???

Let me just quote you for two specific things that I found to be interesting here…
Firstly: “Harry is a bad example for kids.”
Well, maybe I need my vision checked or something but I never once have seen Harry throw himself at Ginny and annoyingly beg her to have premarital sex with him. Let’s not even talk about how unhealthy their whole relationship is and how Edward controls Bella constantly and dictates her decisions. You don’t see Harry doing that to Ginny, or Ron doing that to Hermione. Obviously there’s something not working correctly in that 110-year-old brain of his… the old man might want to get it checked. Anyway, you don’t see any of the Harry Potter girls jumping off cliffs or approaching dangerous looking gangs or just lying around in the forest at night simply because their loves left them. As said by several of the other people on this site, Hermione, for instance, is sad and depressed when Ron leaves her. But she is healthy in her depression and continues helping Harry to find horcruxes and moves on with her life, unlike Bella who decides to go and jump off a cliff because she thinks she hears Edward’s voice whenever she faces death. How psychotic and sick is that? Obviously, Harry Potter shows kids a much BETTER way to cope with depression, such as to be strong. That’s what ‘real’ heroes/heroines are made of.

    Secondly:
“Twilight characters never get themselves into trouble.”
Mmhmm. Right. You’ve TOTALLY read the books, haven’t you? Tell me; how many countless times does Bella just decide to gallivant off and leave her worried father behind in the dust without his permission or any word on where she’s going? But yeah, no. Bella’s perfect, isn’t she?
Twilight- She leaves with Edward to go to Florida and basically tells her father that she hates him before she walks out the door, echoing the same words that her mother had said to him before she left him. And what does Edward the Expert have to say about that? “It’s the only way he’d let you go.” Niiiiice one.
New Moon- Florida just wasn’t far enough. No, this time, Bella decides to venture all the way over to Italy. And does her Father even know that she’s leaving this time? No, the poor man’s at a funeral. Either way, it’s probably best that he doesn’t know where Bella is, rather, that she’s practically being held captive by a gang of malicious, red-eyed blood suckers that want to turn her into a vampire herself. But you’re right, no trouble at all. Just a little smidge of some fun Charlie-bashing.
Breaking Dawn- I’m completely blow away. Who leaves their father in the dark for months and months and months after her wedding and doesn’t even plan to talk to or to ever see her father (and her mother, for that matter) ever again? I know, I know. It’s just one of the sacrifices she had to make to become a vampire. Well to hell with Bella becoming a vampire! What kind of a selfish brat just casts away the people who raised her and cared for her like that just because she wants to knock boots with some glittery hunk of rock? Let me tell you one thing: not Harry Potter, that’s for sure.
Anyway, I hope I made it obvious enough as to why I’d rather pick kick-ass wizards over sparkling parasites any day. And it only took me TWO of your quotes to get my point across. Either way, I really didn’t even need to post this; everyone else here has already made a strong enough argument that you could NEVER break through even if you tried.

    Painfully easy.

    1) The characters of Harry Potter aren’t stereotypes: they break the mold of the ones you prescribe them time and time again. Hermione is, yes, the cleverest of her age and highly well read. This isn’t a stereotype, it’s an archetype. She still is utterly independent and vocal on her opinions, as well as fearless enough to stand up for herself (i.e. hitting Draco for using what is essentially a racial slur against her). And Neville is by no means a loser, and certainly not by the time the series is completed. He is the archetype of the underdog: one who seems beyond help but proves himself, as time develops, fully capable of his goals with a lot of hard effort and heart. He fights and lives through the war. He kills Nagini, the last Horcrux. Hardly a looser.

Twilight’s cast lacks these archetypes because the characters lack depth and thought out characterization.

    2) It may not be in the foreground, but there is plenty of romance in Harry Potter, especially in the Half-Blood Prince.

Harry Potter has Ron and Hermione, with the triangle of Lavender Brown in the mix in the sixth book, built on a lot of sexual tension, years of friendship and their complementary personalities. Harry has a major crush on Cho Chang, starting in the third book and ending in the fifth. He has a lot of romantic interest in Ginny, Ron’s sister, in the last two books. His love is passionate enough that the proverbial beast of desire in his chest (read: his heart) “roars in triumph” when he finally kisses her in the Half-Blood Prince. And they end up married with three children.

And it’s not just the kids. It’s revealed in the same book that Ron’s parents are still very much in love: Arthur calls his wife “Mollywobbles.” Remus Lupin was deeply in love with Theodora Tonks, who was so distraught at his leaving her for her safety, her normally brightly colored hair went mouse brown. Harry’s parents are depicted as having been deeply in love. Snape was deeply in love with Harry’s mother and did everything in her memory, even though she chose James Potter in the end.

Twilight has a codependent idiot couple and a pedophilic werewolf for the main focus.

    3) Cedric was extremely minor in the third book and died in the fourth book, explaining why Robert hasn’t been back for that role. He has, however, said that he would rather play Cedric again any day than Edward. Also, your biases are obvious, juvenile and shallow if you’re using the presence of Robert Pattinson as a reason why Twilight is better.

    4) Harry sneaks out for a reason (mainly to help friends or seek answers to mysteries that will endanger the school and the Wizarding World), and is often punished with detention when he’s caught. It’s also cited that doing what is right will always trump what is expected or easy. On top of that, it’s more relate-able for children to see a character that gets in trouble when they do something wrong than to read about characters that never do wrong in the worlds eyes and thus never receive punishment.

    5) Harry’s tragic past and his destiny just make him a person of interest and are plot points in his character background. He’s completely relate-able, though, in that he goes to school, gets good grades in certain subjects but poor in others, has friends that, while he loves them, he does quarrel with, has had crushes in school and does indeed fall in love, as well as had his heart broken. It’s also completely relate-able that he does have to experience loss through death. While it might not be at the hands of a dark wizard, there is still a war, and children do encounter death, be it their dog, their grandmother, or their favorite older cousin in the army.

Conclusion: You didn’t read Harry Potter and are postulating on biased and incomplete information.

Worst reasons I have ever heard. Let me give you some.
    1. Harry Potter fans aren’t vain and we don’t base our favourite books depending on how “hot” the vampires and werewolves are.
    2. HP books are much better written and English teachers agree with this comment.
    3. Stephen King hates Twilight and loves Harry Potter and we can all rely on Stephen King (Author of The Shining) to be a good critic.
    4. Twilight may include beautiful romantic elements. However, Harry Potter includes many beautiful romances, lots of exhilerating adventures, action, magic…the list could go on.
    5. There are many more layers to the plotline, story and genre of Harry Potter.
    6. Even Cambridge graduates enjoy Harry Potter.
    7. Harry Potter has an adult version as it is aimed at a wide variety of the population. Twilight is in the teenage section & the teenage section alone.
    8. Harry Potter fans can spell and put forward a decent argument on these discussion groups, not like “omg rpattz is hot n stuff”.
    9. Robert Pattinson was Cedric before Edward and he looked and acted better as that role.
    10. Kristen Stewart can not act as Bella-she blinks too much and bites her lip. Is that all she can do with that character?
    11. I don’t blame Kristen for the above. Bella is a very boring character and I doubt there’s much you can do with someone who is totally dependant on a man and who falls over at any given moment.
    12. How does Twilight even make sense? If Jasper goes crazy over a paper cut then he wouldn’t be allowed to go to school where people get paper cuts all the time.
    13. If it tortures Edward so much to not drain Bella dry then how does he contain himself when she has her…monthly visits…grim thing to mention I know but it is a valid point!
    14. Harry Potter is the hero who conquered the Dark Lord. Bella Swan is the heroine who conquered The Volturi…oh wait, no she didn’t. That’s right…she just blocked their powers with her mental barrier and let them walk away after killing an innocent vampire. That’s justice for you!
    15. Hermione and Ginny and (even) Luna are good role models for young women. Unlike Bella who falls apart after losing Edward and only gets back to normal (ish) when she meets Jacob.
    16. I have actually read both book series’ unlike a lot of the Twilight fans who have probably never even looked at a Harry Potter book.
    17. Although Rowling may have been inspired by some ideas from Greek Mythology, The Lord Of The Rings, Star Wars? and The Little White Horse, at least she only adapted a subtle amount of these influences into her novels. Unlike Meyer who (so obviously) copied the romantic structure of events from Wuthering Heights and stole many of LJ Smith’s ideas.
    18. Vampires die in the sunlight, don’t they? They do not sparkle. I don’t understand why teenage girls are going crazy over this. Surely sparkling is something a girl would like to do. Not something a girl would like her boyfriend to do!
    19. Also, a vampire without fangs? Seriously?? Isn’t that just a deranged human?
    20. Team Edward and Team Jacob are just a way to cause arguments amongst Twilight fans. I think it’s safe to say that most Harry Potter fans respect whether another prefers Harry, Ron, Fred, George, Bill, Sirius, Lupin, Snape, Draco or even Voldemort!
    21. There is a Harry Potter Theme Park. A THEME PARK! Hello?
    22. Wizards eat normal food and so they get to visit Honeydukes sweet shop which is full of the most delicious sounding treats you will EVER read about. Vampires drink blood? Oh…yum.
    23. Victoria is the fiery red head of Twilight, yes? There is a large family of fiery red heads in Harry Potter called The Weasley’s…they are all lovable and likeable characters…even Percy (sometimes) while Victoria is a villain (and not a very good one).
    24. Nobody stands up to The Volturi in Twilight but The Order of The Pheonix are not afraid to oppose The Ministry. Hell, even the students oppose the ministry with Dumbledore’s army. Come on Cullens. Surely you could run the Vampire World better than Aro???!
    25. I’d just like to point out to the Twihards that “Daniel Radcliffe got naked with a horse” is not a valid reason to support your belief that Twilight is better. Daniel’s performance of that particular play made critics go crazy with compliments for his “breathtaking performance” so if anything it only supports the belief that Harry Potter is better!
    26. Harry Potter films use lots of very talented actors/actresses in the films. Particularly Alan Rickman, Gary Oldman, Helena Bonham Carter, Ralph Fiennes, Jim Broadbent, Timothy Spall, Jason Isaacs, Robbie Coltrane, Bill Nighy etc etc etc etc (the list could go on).
    27. Harry Potter grew up with it’s readers and so it grew in maturity and the characters developed alongside the fans. The Twilight characters stay the same throughout the novel and it is only aimed at one age group.
    28. Twilight fans seem fond of the question “Who would win in a fight, Vampires or Wizards?” To which I have to say…AVADA KEDAVRA! =] (Or in honour of Snape: SECTUMSEMPRA!)
    29. The true love in Twilight, however lovely to read about, is completely unrealistic. Whereas the romantic aspects of Harry Potter are built up over time to reflect the reality that is even incorporated into a magical world.
    30. Rosalie Cullen may be the perfect, bitchy, blonde haired beauty who is really very nice underneath it all. But I’m sorry, Fleur Delacour is all that and more-she’s even part veela for crying out loud. And she gets Bill who is far cooler than Emmett.
    31. Remus Lupin is typical of the mythological werewolves whereas the Twilight werewolves are just a shoddy version of a shapeshifter. Aren’t shapeshifters supposed to change into whatever animal they want to? I wanted to be a tiger. Thanks Meyer. Way to kill a dream!
    32. Harry Potter is comedic and Ronald Weasley (what a beaut) made me laugh out loud several times throughout ALL of the books. So did Fred & George…actually Harry, Hermione and Ginny did sometimes. I barely laughed at all during the Twilight saga. And in all honesty, laughter is good for the heart and the soul. Isn’t that what they say? ;]
    33. Harry Potter fans are more mature than Twilight fans (not all but most of the time) because Harry Potter is about a fight for survival, a struggle for happiness and a love that is more powerful than evil. Twilight is mainly a love story based around a love triangle. Harry Potter is much more complex!
    34. I’m very sorry for those who are Team Jacob. But…he imprints on a baby? Really? It might not be paedophilic but…it’s still very creepy.
    35. Harry leaves Ginny for her own protection so she smiles with a broken heart, continues to learn defence against the dark arts with the DA and battles against the Death Eaters. Edward leaves Bella for her own protection and she falls into a depression. I think I know who I’d rather be.
    36. Edward might be able to read minds but Snape could teach us all Occlumency to sort out that problem. Also, Voldemort’s Legilimency is much more powerful and effective than Edward’s weak attempt at mind reading. And Aro’s is an absurd concept. Meyer needs to pay attention to Snape. “Thoughts are not etched on the inside of skulls,” … “the mind is a complex and many layered thing.”
    37. Werewolves throw off Alice’s predictions of the future? Well, they don’t throw off Sybill Trelawney’s!
    38. Harry Potter allows you to fall in love with a characters personality rather than blinding you with visions of their perfect looks.
    39. Twihards got really personal and said that all Harry Potter fans are geeks with spots and greasy hair. Well, I don’t fit that description and I’m sure most of Harry Potter’s fanbase don’t either. Just saying…I think you make yourselves seem very vain.
    40. Twilight is taking over too much of my life. Give up on all the merchandise, would you? I’d rather read my HP books than wear a T-shirt of it. It makes it seem as though the books and film haven’t made enough money. Stop milking it please. Thanks!
    41. Harry and co. learn Defence against the dark arts, Potions, Charms, Transfiguration, Care of Magical Creatures etc etc etc. How amazing would that be? Bella and co. learn Maths, Science, English…P.E? Oh how…imaginative.
    42. Alright, so Vamps and Werewolves can run pretty fast. So join the olympics why don’t you? Witches and Wizards can apparate or jump on a firebolt! Hmmm…flying a magical broomstick & disappearing into thin air & appearing somewhere else…or do I just want to run? Toughie, that one!
    43. Overall, the Harry Potter movies are higher grossing blockbusters than the Twilight films. Ok, so New Moon sold more DVDs and had more midnight showings! That’s your only consolation because the Harry Potter films beat the Twilight films and the HP books are a worldwide phenomenom (one of the bestselling books EVER) and will be for years. Twilight is just a teen craze.
    44. Oh woohoo Vampires can live forever! Who wants to live forever when “death is but the next great adventure”???!
    45. Voldemort is eventually defeated, bringing a resounding, happy but heartbreaking resolution to the novels. Aro’s still knocking about, I heard.
    46. Aro looks haggered because he just let the years take their toll on him. Voldemort looks like a dangerous, vehement villain because he killed several times in order to rip his soul and make himself immortal. Hmm, which is the most interesting bad guy? I wonder…
    47. Jacob Black can turn into a wolf? Oh so what. SIRIUS Black can turn into a great, black dog, Peter Pettigrew can turn into a rat, James Potter can turn into a stag, Remus Lupin IS a werewolf, Rita Skeeter can turn into a beetle and Minerva Mcgonagall can turn into a cat.
    48. Harry Potter = Wizards, Witches, Animagi, Werewolves, Ghosts, Poltergeists, Vampires, Dragons, Veela, Cornish Pixies, Fairies, Leprechauns, Giants, Unicorns, Basilisks, Trolls, Goblins, Centaurs, Muggle borns, Squibs etc.
Twilight = Vampires, Shapeshifters, Vampires, Shapeshifters…erm…humans?
    49. Harry manages to fall in love and keep a functional & beautiful relationship with Ginny without stalking her a little! =D
    50. Harry likes Cho first to show how you don’t always realise that the one you’re supposed to be with is right in front of you. Edward and Bella (apart from a cheeky lip locking with a certain werewolf) only want each other from the start-a highly unrealistic, modern day couple if you ask me.
    51. Harry isn’t paranoid about kissing Ginny (even though Ron is in the room!) like Edward is about getting close to Bella. And she doesn’t punch him when he kisses her either unlike Bella to that certain werewolf.
    52. Jacob is obviously a potential rapist. I mean, if a girl punches you when you kiss her the first time then you do NOT force yourself on her again! Got that?
    53. Harry Potter has a Triwizard tournament involving exhilerating tasks and an amazing reward which eventually results in Weasleys Wizard Wheezes! Twilight has the love rivals Jacob and Edward battling it out for a reward of…Bella. Wow.
    54. Harry sacrificed himself to save the world. Edward sacrificed himself to…oh no, he just wanted to die because he thought Bella was dead
    55. Fred and George Weasley (and sometimes Lee Jordan) are legends and cannot be compared to anyone in Twilight.
    56. Ron, Harry and Hermione share a wonderful friendship. The Cullens’ friendships are all very uninteresting and don’t seem to be strong at all. Do they have any REAL friends? Apart from each other?
    57. Harry and Ginny and Ron and Hermione actually grow up and marry and have children. A beautiful ending to a beautiful series! Twilight has only a continual family of teenagers. Great…this gets old, you know. (Even if the characters don’t!!!)
    58. Rowling wasn’t afraid to kill off several main characters in order to take the readers through an emotional journey. Things can’t always be nicey-nicey Meyer >:|
    59. Even Nicholas Flamel gets tired of living forever. When are the Cullens gonna tire of it?
    60. Edward’s eyes change colour when he’s hungry? How nice. Tonks can change her entire appearance whenever. Plus, Hermione can whip me up a polyjuice potion anytime!
    61. Ron and Hermione actually get on each others nerves and argue because they have human emotions! Edward wasn’t even angry when Bella cheated on him. When is that guy going to grow a backbone?
    62. Snape dedicated his life to good just because of his love for Lily. That’s what you call dedication. You might wanna take some notes Miss Swan.
    63. Neville Longbottom (the stereotypical loser) was a hero and killed Nagini, shattering many stereotypes and instilling the readers with faith.
    64. Harry Potter is so heartbreakingly brilliant that nobody can read The Deathly Hallows and not cry.
    65. In the wizarding world you can consume Felix Felicis aka liquid luck. What could be better?
    66. Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Bonnie
Wright, Tom Felton and Evanna Lynch all play their characters brilliantly and they are all lovely in real life.
    67. Edward and Harry both died and came back to life…but Harry didn’t need to be bitten by a vampire and join the undead to do it.
    68. Hagrid. Enough said. He’s jollier than Father Christmas!
    69. Albus Dumbledore says the wisest things. Eg. “Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times if one only remembers to turn on the light.” Listen up Cullen! Just turn on the light and stop being all serious and worried all the time.
    70. Twilight spends about 10 pages describing the same thing. Jeez, get on with it! I don’t care how beautiful Edward is, I want to know the plot!
    71. Jasper can control how people feel? Who needs that?! IMPERIO … there, done
    72. The Vampire Diaries TV show mentioned Twilight only to mock it (basically) =]
    73. Being an avid reader I read both series’ in a very short amount of time. (a book a day?) And after Harry Potter I felt sad that it was over, thrilled by how good it was and amazed that someone’s imagination had actually thought up such an amazing and complex story. After The Twilight Saga…I wasn’t thrilled and I was very disappointed that there was no battle. There was a mega build up…for what?
    74. The Twilighters claiming that Harry Potter is complicated better not even try to read any of the classics that their heroine (Meyer) loves so much. Their brains are clearly not up to it.
    75. The names of the Harry Potter characters have deep and meaningful reasons behind them. Eg. Albus = White (in latin) perfect for the Dark Lord’s worst fear. And Dumbledore = Bumblebee…Rowling said that she “liked the idea that this music lover might absent-mindedly hum to himself”. Whereas the names used in Twilight can only kind of be applied to the characters. And Bella = beautiful…yet she is described to be very plain. Hmm…?
    76. Rowling has an impressive knowledge of myths and legends and moulds them into her own to make them seem fresh and original.
    77. Even though HP is set in fantastical circumstances, a lot of real life traumas happen, enabling everyone to relate to it.
    78. Most of the characters in Twilight are extremely one dimensional whereas everyone in Harry Potter is complex and has many sides to them (even Voldemort…when you learn about his past in the 6th book)
    79. Everyone wants a Hogwarts christmas!!! That amazing dinner, wizards crackers, a knitted jumper off Mrs Weasley, giant Christmas trees with real fairies and icicles for decoration, exploding snap with Fred and George, snowball fights with the Weasleys & Harry & Hermione and looking out at the frozen lake, kissing Harry or Ron under the miseltoe (Hermione or Ginny for the guys?) ;] Sounds pretty perfect to me.
    80. The ending of Harry Potter has a mirror of the beginning with Teddy Lupin losing his Auror parents (but because Voldemort is defeated, he gets a nice life =]) Unlike Breaking Dawn which ends with…wait for it..”The End”..oh how original.
    81. I don’t care how fast Edward and Jacob are at running, Grawp could smush them with his big feet in a second.
    82. Speaking of Grawp, his knowledge consisting of “Hagger” and “Hermy” are actually much more useful than the knowledge in Twilight. Ouch. Sorry…harsh. But you guys asked for it!
    83. Hermione is quick thinking, clever and knowing. Bella is slow and terrible at thinking on her feet.
    84. Oooh! Halloween at Hogwarts anyone? Hagrids giant pumpkins, amazing decorations and another beautiful dinner? But you know, I think I’d even enjoy Sir Nick’s deathday party!
    85. The reasons I have listed are far more valuble and informative than the ones on the Twilight fan page which just goes on about how “Vampires are WAY hotter than wizards” Uh. Ok.
    86. With regards to 85, although I do not under any circumstances base which I prefer on looks, I’d just like to point out that Lautner’s body was camera enhanced in New Moon and Pattinson had his abs painted on. At least when Dan “got naked with a horse” he was brave and comfortable enough to do it in his own skin.
    87. Edward my dear, you can run but you can’t hide. Harry…you have an invisibility cloak so…I guess you can run and hide. Good for you!
    88. Harry Potter has references to the wizard – Merlin – who is a part of the Arthurian legend, possibly one of the best and most loved legends of all time.
    89. The popularity of Harry Potter caused universities
and colleges across the globe to begin to include a “creative writing” course as one of their subjects. Twilight caused…oh…nothing.
    90. Do you ever see Hermione or Ginny throwing themselves at Ron or Harry? No. You do not. Because Ginny matures and realises that she has to be patient to get the man she loves and Hermione is just classier and smarter than Bella.
    91. Harry Potter is appealing to both boys, girls, men and women. Whereas Twilight…lets face it…is mainly for the teenage variety of the female gender.
    92. Apparently Edward Cullen is a Byronic Hero now? Oh come off it. What faults could he possibly have? Apart from being irritatingly perfect and stalkerish.
    93. Twilight suddenly became popular and over rated after the film came out. Harry Potter hit it off before the films were contracted and it could never be over rated! ♥
    94. I am Lord Voldemort = Tom Marvolo Riddle. So clever! And then there’s Aro…yeah, beautifully and cleverly created that name, Meyer.
    95. Harry Potter has a powerful theme of Good Vs Evil and emphasises the fact that love conquers all (romantic, friendship or familial). Twilight is just a romance.
    96. “You are my life now” Woah. Intense! Harry and Ginny are in love as are Ron and Hermione but you don’t need to make your partner your everything. You can have other people in your life too, you know!
    97. Dobby sacrifices himself to save Harry and his friends, his first word to Harry and his last words ever being “Harry Potter”. Also, Kreacher is a very cool House Elf. Even Vampires and Werewolves wouldn’t stand a chance against his Elf stampede.
    98. Voldemort is the most powerful dark wizard ever known. So if Harry managed to defeat him, he could easily defeat Edward, Jacob and Bella put together. Don’t try him ;]
    99. It is possible to read the Harry Potter books over and over and over again and never get bored of them due to their breathtaking, awesome, thrilling and simply amazing storyline which should appeal to anyone and everyone.
    100. If you’re a Twilighter or you don’t agree with what I’ve just said, then you’re obviously a muggle, still bitter about the fact that you didn’t get your Hogwarts letter of acceptance. Let it go already. Can’t you see what that did to Petunia? =]

Amazing comment! Another thing that gives Harry Potter fans the better side of the disagreement, is that (I’ve been waiting for my Pottermore email and looking up discussions) whenever asked to give good firm reasons on why Twilight is better, it usually is just “because it is” or “they’re hot”. However, when we’re asked, we can keep giving reasons for a long while (100 is quite a lot). And, usually, there is never a reply to our reasons :) Which proves that we hold the better side of the disagreement. I have been searching now, for just at least 1 reason that hasn’t been proved wrong by a Potter fan, and have not found one :)

#33 explains exactly why the two movies cant be compared why waste time comparing two movies that are in different genres? You wouldnt compare The Notebook with Transformers? No you wouldnt so why compare a love story to an action film

I am a 14 year old girl and I have read both series, and I enjoyed Harry Potter infinitely more. From Harry Potter, I learned it was okay to be different, that it was okay to be smart and study for school, and to treat everyone equally. The only thing I took away from Twilight is that you need a boyfriend to be worth anything. I know which one I would rather read.

I read them when I was ten years old. ( I read Harry Potter when I was 7) and believe me I thought Bella was pretty stupid for jumping off a cliff. (Actually I don´t hate twilight. We have this expression in Spanish that fits what I felt perfectly: “Pena ajena” wich means feeling embarrasment for others. I mean it was so stupid I couldn´t hate it, I just couldn´t) Of course I somehow doubted my own opinion back then. I had not read as much books as I have today and was to small to judge a broken-hearted girl. Oh, but know I am 13 and my parents teached me to THINK, and I still think twilight is stupid. Oh and I still love Harry Potter; “Always”

    O.K. challenge accepted.

1: “Harry Potter has too many stereotypes. For example, Hermione’s the nerd, Neville’s the loser and Draco’s the bully. Twilight has no stereotypes.” First of all you need to look up the definition of a stereotype. A stereotype is a commonly held public belief about specific social groups, or types of individuals. This being said how are the nerd, loser, and bully stereotypes. Even if they are, nerds, bullies, losers, pranksters, etc. are common in school. I’m sure if you attended school you would know that these people exist and thus would exist in any accurate replication of a school environment. Twilight obviously does not include these as it is not in Meyer’s capability to think of a true school.

2:” Harry Potter barely any romantic love. It’s all about family and friendship. That is so lame!”: Just reading this reveals the fact that you have not read the Harry Potter books. What do you call the relationship between Hermione and Ron, Harry and Ginny, Snape and Lily (one sided but one of the best love stories ever written; maybe not as good as Jane Austin but excellent nevertheless), Lily and James, Bill and Fluer, the rest of the adults and their spouses? Anyway what you call romantic love in T****** is not it is just lust. If you don’t know what that is look it up.

3: “Robert Pattinson is more dedicated to Twilight then he was Harry Potter. He’s gonna be in all the Twilight movies but he’s was only in one Harry Potter movie. As I recall Cedric Diggory was in 2 of the books.” because an actor’s dedication to a movie really judges how good it is. Really the stupidity astounds me. In addition Mr. Pattinson has stated that he much preferred playing Cedric Diggory than Edward. Thats right Twihards your sparkely Edward likes Harry Potter better!

4: “Harry is a bad example for kids. He’s always getting himself into trouble, like when he sneaks out of Gryffindor tower. Twilight characters never get themselves into trouble.” In addition to being unrealistic (real teenagers get into trouble all the time) this argument is just plain stupid. If the reason is acceptable getting in trouble is O.K. I suppose you think Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King Jr., and Gandhi were bad examples, after all they got in plenty of trouble.

5: “You can relate to Twilight better. I mean how many people do you know that have fallen in love. Now how many people do you know, ho have to kill of an all powerful bad guy because he killed their parents. Theses are my top 5 reasons why Twilight is waaay better then Harry Potter. I’d like to see them proved wrong.” Again as stated above the love in Twilight is not love it’s lust. Also stressing “waaay” does not help your argument nor my thoughts on your intelligence. As for relating to Harry Potter many people from around the world, in different walks of life, and genders. My grandparents in India, Swedish cousins, and New Zealandic uncle all read and enjoy Harry Potter. Honesty the only people I have seen pick up a Twilight book are girls at least the Harry Potter series is attractive to both genders.

Ha, there you go I have proven all your reasons wrong, and quite honestly I advise you to read proper literature (the Harry Potter series) before you insult one of the greatest series of all time.

O.K challenge accepted, but first how can someone be so stupid?

All right, in response to “1: Harry Potter has too many stereotypes. For example, Hermione’s the nerd, Neville’s the loser and Draco’s the bully. Twilight has no stereotypes” Have you ever been to school? There are nerds, losers, and bullies it’s just the way life is. Also you need to look up the word stereotype it means “a set of inaccurate, simplistic generalizations about a group that allows others to categorize them and treat them accordingly”, how are your examples stereotypes?

2: “Harry Potter barely any romantic love. It’s all about family and friendship. That is so lame!” This quote tells me I am dealing with an idiot who has not read the books. What you see in T******* isn’t love it’s lust look up the definitions of both. Also, what do you call the relationships between Bill and Fluer, Tonks and Lupin, Hermione and Ron, Harry and Ginny, Snape and Lily (one sided), and between all the adults and their spouses? She smells good and he is hot isn’t love.

3: “Robert Pattinson is more dedicated to Twilight then he was Harry Potter. He’s gonna be in all the Twilight movies but he’s was only in one Harry Potter movie. As I recall Cedric Diggory was in 2 of the books.” Are you serious? He himself admitted he liked Cedric Diggory more than Edward. Got to hand it to him though he gets paid millions to look constipated (in the T****** series). Even without this dedication to a series by an actor is how good something is?

4: “Harry is a bad example for kids. He’s always getting himself into trouble, like when he sneaks out of Gryffindor tower. Twilight characters never get themselves into trouble.” This is probably the worst argument to date. So sleeping with someone isn’t a bad example. How about abusive relationships passed off as love? Don’t listen to your parents is a great lesson right? (note sarcasm) Weren’t Nelson Mandela, Gandhi, and MLK bad examples too, didn’t they get in plenty of trouble? (if you twihards don’t know who they are look it up).

5: “You can relate to Twilight better. I mean how many people do you know that have fallen in love. Now how many people do you know, ho have to kill of an all powerful bad guy because he killed their parents. Theses are my top 5 reasons why Twilight is waaay better then Harry Potter. I’d like to see them proved wrong.” First stressing “waaay” doesn’t help in my views of your intelligence, no neither does your bad grammar and spelling. Second if these are your top reasons I would hate to see your bad ones. (let my guess Edward is sooooooooo hot right?) Many more people can relate to Harry Potter, and as stated above Twilight is not love it’s lust. I have yet to see an adult or a boy pick up twilight. In the Harry Potter universe these things are common place. My 3 year old Swedish cousin (a girl) loves the series as much as my Indian grandparents, or my New Zealandic uncle, everyone can read and enjoy the Harry Potter series.

I have just proven every reason you had wrong. Please go read some real literature (the Harry Potter series) before you speak.

Harry Potter is WAY better. I can prove every one of your reasons wrong.
1.) You said Harry Potter has too many stereotyoes. Yes, through the beginning and middle of the series sterotypes are present, but nearly all of them are broken. By this I mean in Deathly Hallows, Neville (who you called ‘the nerd’) steps up and leads Dumbledore’s Army and also kills Voldemort’s snake, and horcrux, Nagini. You also said Draco was the bully but in the last book when Harry, Ron and Hermione are brought to the Malfoy manner by the snatchers, Draco doesn’t confirm Harry’s identity when asked and doesn’t even look at Hermione.

2.) You said Harry Potter doesn’t have any romantic love. Really? Then how do you explain couples such as Ron and Hermione, Harry and Ginny, Ron and Lavender Brown, Harry and Cho Chang, Hermione and Victor Krum, Ginny and Dean Thomas, James and Lily Potter, Lupin and Tonks, Lily and Severus and Bill Weasley and Fluer Delacour. And the romantic relationships in Harry Potter are more realistic in the sense that their relationships devolp over time and starts as a simple friendship or crush and grows into a realistic, mature romantic relationship unlike your unrealistic Twilight relationships which as mainly based on only physical attraction and involves almost no emotional understanding or connection.
(And the boyfriends/ husbands in Harry potter don’t stalk their girlfriends/ wives in the middle of the night like a certain vampire)

3.) OF COURSE ROBERT PATTINSON IS MORE DEDICATED TO TWILIGHT! HE PLAYS THE LEAD ROLE!!! WHAT KIND OF STUPID REASON IS THAT!!! Daniel Radcliffe (Harry), Rupert Grint (Ron) and Emma Watson (Hermione) played in all 8 movies along with Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid), Alan Rickman (Snape), Devon Murray (Seamus Finnigan), Joshua Herdman(Goyle), Matthew Lewis (Neville), Tom Felton (Draco), Bonnie Wright (Ginny), James AND Oliver Phelps ( Fred and George Weasley) And Geraldine Somerville (Lily Potter)

4.) REALLY?!?! You are going to say that Harry Potter is a bad example? Well do you think Bella is sending a good message? Her boyfriend breaks up with her and she falls into a deep depression which only improves when she starts dating another guy. Do you see Ginny or Hermione throwing themselves into their boyfriend’s arms? No. You don’t because the female characters in Harry Potter (Hermione, Ginny, Luna) are all strong, independent women who fight for what they believe in and stand up for themselves. And do you think Bella sets a good example by basically trying to kill herself when Edwards leaves her? I didn’t think so. And even when Harry sneaks out of the tower, he almost always gets punished which tells the readers that you can’t get away with everything

5.) You say you can’t relate to Harry Potter? All the characters in Harry Potter have many layers and feelings, falts and strengths just like us readers. Bella is such a boring, untalented character, how could anyone relate to her. And you said that everyone falls in love. Totally true. But which is the more realistic way to fall in love?
A: A ‘plain’ girl looks at a very handsome guy and falls in love. The guy falls for her when he sneaks into her room and watches her sleep. (This was Edward and Bella)
B: They boy and the girl are best friends. Over the years of their friendship, both secretly start devolping a crush on each other. Eventually, they’re true feelings become apparent to each other and they start dating. (This was Ron and Hermione)
Yeah… I’m going to have to lean towards B mainly because I have never had a creepy guy fall in love with me while watching me sleep.

So there you go!!! I proved every one of you’re reasons wrong! :)
